My leadership traits are from my education, military service, aviation skills, business ethics, and aspirations to be the best person I can be. Therefore, I respect others, am an active listener and communicate, demonstrate courage, delegate responsibilities, am accountable, use intelligence and common sense, read and research, display maturity, understand the rules, and share the game plan.
I am a graduate of the University of Mississippi and served 6 years in the TN Air National Guard. An FAA Certified Flight Instructor, I meet monthly with other aviators at Panola County Airport. I have earned success in business and investment ventures including real estate sales, ownerships, and being an instructor for Northwest Community College. After purchasing and remodeling the closed Eureka Cinema, I ran movies for 12 years until another theater owner purchased it in 1985. For 3 decades I created, managed, and led The Data Company, a litigation support service where I bridged computer technology to the courtroom for many law firms and companies including giants Fed Ex, IBM, Microsoft, and Wal-Mart. I am recognized by the Federal Courts as a computer accident reconstructionist.
Since 1970 I have been a resident of Batesville and involved in this community. From 1976-1985 I was a Batesville Alderman. In 1977 I received the Man of the Year award from the Batesville Chamber of Commerce for my work stimulating industrial development in South Panola County and Northwest Mississippi. I was a member and director of South Panola Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Panola County Industrial Foundation, Rotarian, and Advisory Board Member of First Security Bank. In 2020 I was appointed by the Election Commission and served as a member of the Resolution Board for Panola County.
The City of Batesville is my business because I care about the people in our community; I do not have a business with outside responsibilities. I am an active member of the Batesville First Methodist Church where I stream services and operate the soundboard for worship services including weddings and funerals. I serve on the Board of the Batesville Magnolia Cemetery and designed/oversee its webpage and Facebook account. In my spare time I enjoy woodworking, numismatics, bow hunting, aviation and golf. My wife Carolyn Meacham Ferrell and I have two married daughters Jeana (John) Burchfield and Natalie (Charles) Wright. We have 4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters-in-law.
